Bank Statement Converter

Bank statement converter

Turn a PDF bank or credit card statement into a spreadsheet you can sort, import and reconcile. The file stays on your device, and every row is checked against the statement's balances.

Converted in this browser. The PDF is never uploaded. Check it yourself

How it works

  1. Drop the PDF

Use the statement you downloaded from online banking. Password-protected files work; you type the password here.

  2. Check the balance

Each row is added to the opening balance and compared with the running balance on the statement. Rows that don't add up turn red so you can fix them in the table.

  3. Download

Excel and CSV are free. QBO, OFX and the QuickBooks and Xero CSV layouts will come with Pro, which isn't on sale yet.

Why this bank statement converter checks the balance

Converting a statement is easy to get almost right. A missed line, a debit read as a credit or a wrapped description that swallowed an amount all produce a spreadsheet that looks fine and is wrong. You find out at month end when the books don't reconcile.

So every conversion is checked the way a bookkeeper would: opening balance plus each transaction should equal the running balance on the next line, and the total should land on the closing balance. If it does, you see a green check. If it doesn't, the rows that break the chain are marked and you can correct, add or delete rows right in the table; the check reruns as you type.

Credit card statements usually have no running balance, so the check uses the previous balance, the transactions and the new balance instead.

What it reads

Dates like 03/14, 14/03/2026, Mar 14 or 2026-03-14. Amounts in one column with minus signs, parentheses, trailing minus or CR/DR, or in separate debit and credit columns. Statements that span many pages, repeat their headers and wrap long descriptions onto a second line. Sections such as "Deposits and additions" and "Withdrawals" that print amounts without signs.

Layouts vary a lot between banks and we can't promise every one reads cleanly. When one doesn't, the balance check tells you, and AI repair can take a second pass.

Check that nothing is uploaded

You don't have to take our word for it. Two ways to see for yourself:

  1. Go offline. Once this page has loaded, turn off Wi-Fi or switch on airplane mode, then drop a statement in. It still converts, because the converter runs in your browser and the page keeps a copy of itself for offline use.
  2. Watch the network. Open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), choose the Network tab, then convert a file. You'll see no request carrying your PDF.

The one exception is AI repair, which you have to switch on yourself for a statement our parser couldn't read cleanly. It sends the text we extracted from the PDF (not the file) to our server, and only after you tick a box agreeing to it. Details are on the privacy page.

Questions

Is the bank statement converter free?

Yes, for 5 pages a day with no account: you get the table, the balance check and Excel or CSV downloads. Pro, for people who convert statements every month and need QBO, OFX or accounting CSV files, is coming soon.

Which banks does it work with?

It's a general parser, not a list of supported banks. It reads the dates, descriptions and amounts on the page and works out the columns, so it isn't tied to one bank's layout. The balance check shows whether the result is complete.

What if the balances don't match?

The rows that break the running balance are highlighted. Compare them with the PDF, fix the amount or add the missing line in the table, and the check updates. If many rows are wrong, try AI repair.

Can I convert several statements at once?

With Pro you can drop several PDFs and download them as one file, with a column showing which statement each row came from. Each statement is still checked on its own.

Is my statement uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and read by your browser, on your device. The only time anything leaves your device is AI repair, which you switch on yourself; it sends the extracted text, not the file, and we don't store it.

Does it work with scanned statements?

Not yet. The converter reads the text inside a PDF. A scan or a photo of a statement is an image with no text in it, so nothing comes out. Most statements downloaded from online banking are text-based.
